Conteúdo: Abstract: Brazil has a large area of planted pastures used for cattle production. However, a considerable portion is considered degraded, with cattle production below its potential. The identification and recovery of such areas could result in production gains, higher carbon stocks in the soil and land sparing for other agricultural activities. This work evaluates the spectral reflectance of the 8-band WorldView-2 satellite images over six pastures areas with three degradation levels (A,B,C) and two distinct grass species (Humidícula, Piatã). The evaluation was carried out over Fazenda Olhos d’Água, located in Aquidauana, MS, Brazil and used an atmospherically corrected WV2 image. Statistical tests where used to identify which spectral bands could be used to differentiate pasture degradation level, grass species and degradation level given that grass species was known. Results show that it was possible to identify the two grass species in the study area and that, degradation level could be identified if grass species was known. However, with no prior knowledge of grass species, degradation level discrimination was compromised and of the three possible comparisons (B-A, C-A, C-B), only one was considered statistically different (C-A) in some of the spectral bands. This indicates that, if reflectance spectra is to be used for pasture degradation mapping, it’s important to have prior knowledge of the grass species. Este trabalho investigou a possibilidade de identificar diferentes níveis de degradação de pastagens, em dois tipos de forrageira, a partir da reflectância medida nas oito bandas espectrais do satélite WorldView-2 (WV2).
