Description: | The effects of age and reproductive status on the main wool production components of 1256 Corriedale breeding ewes, ageing 21/4 to 81/4 years old, were investigated in southern Brazil, and used to predict the mean production of flocks of differing age structure. The results showed that wool production varies considerably with age and reproductive status and that in distinct environments the effects are unlikely to be constant with respect to most productive ages. Results on production from flocks varying in age composition (adjusted for the effects of reproductive status and ewe mortality rates), demonstrated that, in this environment, flocks containing ewes up to 61/4 years old, would have a relatively better wool production than when including older ewes. |
