Description: This chapter discusses the role of the protected area Category VI in the conservation of landscapes. It presents perspectives on the concept of landscape and different approaches to protection of landscapes. Landscape is a concrete and a representational reality. Broader than just nature conservation with an emphasis on the cultural values of a place, the protected landscape approach must include participatory processes and integration within regional planning and management.
