Description: ABSTRACT – The objective of this study is to calibrate the crop growth model STICS (Simulateur mulTIdisciplinaire de Culture Standard) for the maize-millet cropping sequence under DMC. For this purpose data on soil water dynamics, leaf area index (LAI), aboveground plant biomass and grain yield were collected in field experiments. STICS reproduced adequately observed dynamics of LAI and soil water. The advantage of DMC compared to cropping under conventional tillage was the conservation of soil water, because of reduced losses through surface water run- off and evaporation under DMC, which resulted in higher water availability for the maize and millet crops.
