Description: Forage yield of annual ryegrass populations in Campanha region of the Rio Grande do Sul The annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam,) is a grass with high dry matter production of good quality widely used in Rio Grande do Sul during the cold season of year. However, the common population, one of more utilized in the state, show very short cycle of growth and low production of leaves. To resolv this problem, the current programmes of breeding are selecting plants with long cycle and high productive potential. This study aimed to evaluate the forage yield of different selected populations of annual ryegrass in the Campanha region of Rio Grande do Sul. The experiment carried out in Embrapa South Animal Husbandry & Sheep. Thirteen selected populations were evaluated, comparing them with five registered cultivars and two commercial population with origin genetic not defined, called Comum 1 and Comum 2. The selected populations 135 and 102 showed growth cycle longer and forage yield always equal or superior that all registered cultivars.
