Conteúdo: This work assumes that it is possible to represent a municipality by only one or a few measures derived from spectral information obtained by remote sensing for the entire municipality during one year. Under this hypothesis, the location of the pixel within the municipality loses relevance because the goal is to build a single measure by municipality. It is also needed to gather all the images obtained during one year to build a single annual standard if we are to reconcile the spectral information to official statistics in Brazil, since most of them are available by year and county. The objective pursued was to define an algorithm that resulted in a standard chart of annual vegetation index by municipality, using EVI2 data from MOD13Q1 product of MODIS, which is related to the predominant use of land in the municipalities. We analyzed data from 2001 to 2008 for three counties in the state of Sao Paulo. Initial results have revealed that, at least between counties with strong predominance of a certain type of land use, the differences in annual EVI2 pattern are obvious and can be quantified.
