Título:	Caracterização de cultivares do gênero Brachiaria: descritores quantitativos.

Conteúdo:	RESUMO - Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar 10 cultivares do gênero Brachiaria com o intuito de identificar caracteres que possam diferenciar as mesmas, bem como estabelecer cultivares exemplos para a União Internacional para Proteção das Obtenções Vegetais (UPOV). Foram avaliados 12 caracteres e as cultivares foram alocadas em grupos para apresentação dos resultados. No grupo formado pelas cultivares Mulato, Mulato II e B. ruziziensis, os caracteres comprimento da lâmina, racemo basal e número de espiguetas permitiram diferenciar as mesmas; no grupo das B. humidicola, os caracteres que permitiram diferenciá-las foram número de perfilhos basais, comprimento da lâmina, comprimento da haste floral e número de espiguetas no racemo basal. Considerando-se o grupo formado pelas cultivares de B. brizantha, apenas três caracteres (número de perfilhos basais, comprimento da haste floral e peso de 100 sementes) não apresentaram contrastes de médias significativos e, portanto, os demais caracteres avaliados podem ser utilizados para diferenciar as cultivares do grupo. Comparando-se esse grupo com a cultivar Basilisk, cinco caracteres (comprimento da lâmina, da haste floral, do eixo da inflorescência, do racemo basal; e número de espiguetas no racemo basal) podem ser utilizados para distingui-la, sendo que a mesma apresenta estimativas da média inferiores ao grupo de B. brizantha. Os caracteres quantitativos permitem diferenciar as cultivares em uso, melhor se combinados com caracteres qualitativos. ABSTRACT - This trial had the objective of evaluating 10 cultivars of Brachiaria in order to identify characters to differentiate amongst them, as well as to establish model cultivars for the International Union for the Protection of New Variety of Plants (UPOV). There were evaluated twelve characters and the cultivars were allocated in groups for presentation of results. In the group of the cultivars Mulato, Mulato II and B. ruziziensis the character leaf length, length of basal raceme and number of spikelets on basal raceme can differentiate them; the group formed by B. humidicola can be differentiated by the following characters: number of tillers, leaf length, length of floral stem and number of spikelets on basal raceme. Considering the group formed by cultivars of B. brizantha, only three characters (number of tillers, length of floral stem and weight of 100 seeds) showed no significant contrasts of means and, therefore, the other characters can be used to distinguish cultivars into this group. Comparing this group with the Basilisk cultivar, five characters (leaf length, length of flower stem, inflorescence length, length of basal raceme and number of spikelets on basal raceme) can be use to distinguish it, and this one presents lower estimate than B. brizantha group. The quantitative characters can differentiate cultivars in market use, better if combining these results with qualitative characters.
