Título: Nitrogen sources on the chemical composition and productivity of maize alone and intercropped with brachiaria.
Autoria: OLIVEIRA, T. C. C. de; CECCON, G.; TOMAZI, M.; BAYER, C.
Conteúdo: Maize-brachiaria intercropping has become adopted as a sustainable agricultural practice, capable of improving soil quality, optimizing nitrogen (N) use, and increasing the productive resilience of cropping systems. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different N sources on the agronomic performance of maize. The experiment was conducted at Embrapa Agropecuária Oeste (Dourados, MS, Brazil). The experimental design was a randomized block design with a 2 × 4 factorial scheme, with three replications. The treatments included two maize cropping systems (monoculture and intercropped with brachiaria) and four N sources applied as topdressing: urea (45% N), urea with urease inhibitor (45% N), ammonium nitrate (27% N), and a control (no N). Plant height, biomass, grain yield, 100-grain weight, and nutrient content in the straw, and grains were evaluated. Maize monoculture showed greater accumulation of N and S in the grains, while maize-brachiaria intercropping increased C input in the straw and intensified nutrient cycling. N sources did not alter total biomass, but urea and urea with inhibitors increased N and Cu in the straw, and all increased N in the grains. It was concluded that intercropping combined with proper N management favors more sustainable systems for potential soil conservation.

Autoria: SACALON, L. Q.; FLORA, D. P. D.; CORTEZ, J. W.; TOMAZI, M.; SCHWAMBACH, D. A.
Conteúdo: This study aimed to identify soil physical attributes most effective in discriminating management zones associated with soybean yield across three consecutive growing seasons. The research was conducted on a commercial farm managed under a long-term no-tillage system for more than 30 years, using a 73-point georeferenced sampling grid. Soil attributes analyzed included clay, silt, sand, microporosity, aggregate stability index, organic matter, bulk density, degree of flocculation, mean weight diameter of aggregates, depth to maximum penetration resistance, and water-dispersible clay. Soybean yield data were obtained from a calibrated yield monitor installed on a combine harvester. Data analysis involved geostatistical procedures and spatial interpolation using ordinary kriging, followed by delineation of two management zones based on the Fuzzy performance index and Normalized classification entropy. Integration of soil physical attributes with multi-season yield data proved effective and reliable for defining management zones. The high-yield zone was characterized by higher clay and silt contents, organic matter, water-dispersible clay, and microporosity, which showed positive correlations with yield. In contrast, higher sand content and greater depth to maximum penetration resistance were associated with the low-yield zone and exhibited negative correlations with soybean yield. These results indicate that combining soil physical properties with multitemporal yield data enables identification of consistent spatial patterns, supporting development of site-specific management strategies in soybean production systems
