Título: Nutritive value of Panicum maximum genotypes under grazing in the Amazon Biome.
Autoria: ANDRADE, C. M. S. de; JANK, L.; FARINATTI, L. H. E.; NASCIMENTO, H. L. B. do
Conteúdo: The Panicum maximum breeding program of Embrapa released three cultivars (Tanzânia, Mombaça and Massai) from 1990 to 2001. Due to its advantages over the older cultivars (e.g. Colonião and Tobiatã), these are currently the most planted P. maximum cultivars in Brazil. In its second phase, the program is currently trying to select even superior genotypes to be released as new cultivars in the next few years. The objective of this work was to compare the nutritive value of two new P. maximum genotypes with cultivar Tanzânia when managed under rotational stocking in the Amazon biome.

Multispecies mixtures: management implications for subtropical and tropical pasture production.

Título: Multispecies mixtures: management implications for subtropical and tropical pasture production.
Autoria: CARVALHO, P. C. de; DALL'AGNOL, M.; NABINGER, C.; ANDRADE, C. M. S. de; MORAES, A. de; SILVA, S. C. da
Conteúdo: The purpose of this review is to present some of the most recently successful grass+legume mixtures in tropical and sub-tropical regions and to discuss the reasons for low adoption of legumes. A concept in which the main constraints for the advance in using legumes is presented, as follows: i) the general agricultural conception about the role of legumes in mixtures, ii) the lack of an ecological perspective and knowledge about species strategies under disturbance. Finally, evidence of how grazing management is a central parameter in grass-legume equilibrium is discussed.

Título: Direct sowing of Brachiaria brizantha for pasture renovation in the Amazon biome.
Autoria: ABREU, A. de Q.; ANDRADE, C. M. S. de; FARINATTI, L. H. E.
Conteúdo: No-tillage systems are nowadays largely used in Brazilian agriculture, due to its numerous benefits when compared with traditional tillage systems. However, this technique has been little used in livestock systems for pasture renovation. The development of this technique has a great potential to assist small farmers to reclaim its degraded pastures with less investment and reduced environmental impact. The objective of this work was to define the best rate and time of direct sowing of Brachiaria brizantha cv. Xaraés in a no-till strategy of pasture renovation.
