Conteúdo: The objective of this review was to analyze the role of forest biomass valorization in bioeconomy and global energy transition. This study presents the contributions of emerging technologies to the production of sustainable products and their alignment with Brazil’s international climate commitments, particularly the goals outlined for COP30. Given that fossil fuel combustion accounts for nearly 80% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the search for renewable energy alternatives has become a strategic priority. Biorefineries have emerged as a key pathway for converting plantand animal-based biomass into bioenergy and renewable chemical compounds. Brazil stands out for its extensive availability of forest and agro-industrial residues, which strengthens its potential to generate high-value-added products and promote sustainable industrial practices. By-products such as lignin, nanocellulose, and agroforestry residues show a significant potential for the development of innovative materials that contribute to decarbonization strategies. The integration of Brazil’s biomass resources with technological innovation may position the country as a global leader in advancing sustainable bio-based solutions.

Conteúdo: Forest biomass offers a solution for energy security and boosting the low-carbon bioeconomy in Brazil. This article aimed to analyze the adequacy of Brazilian public policies directed at the production of forest biomass for energy purposes. The study involved a survey of 171 experts in forestry public policy in Brazil, who answered an online questionnaire. The main results reveal that, although legislation for forestry production is considered relatively adequate, laws addressing the specific portion for energy purposes are considered less adequate. The specialists reported the need to reform existing legislation to better serve the productive sector. Regarding economic instruments, most respondents considered the volume of rural credit for forest plantations insufficient and interest rates high. Moreover, 82% of the respondents indicated that small forestry producers have the greatest difficulty in gaining access to credit. In conclusion, this study highlights the need for more effective public policies for the forest biomass energy sector. Suggestions include creating specific lines of credit for small producers with lower interest rates and longer grace and repayment periods, establishing quality-control regu- lations for biomass, and ensuring a minimum price for timber. Such actions would be crucial to promoting the energy transition, energy security, and a low-carbon bioeconomy in Brazil.

Conteúdo: Ceiba pentandra (Malvaceae) is a species popularly known in North Brazil as “sumaúma” that has attracted interest in phytochemical studies due to the diversity of classes of compounds biologically active. The objective of this study was to investigate the chemical constituents present in the wood residues of Ceiba pentandra and to evaluate the antibacterial activity of a purified sesquiterpene lactone against Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri. The isolated compounds were identified based on one-dimensional (1H and 13C) and/or two-dimensional (HSQC and HMBC) NMR analyses, the mixtures of fatty acid were characterized by GC-MS. The chemical constituents identified were steroids (cholest-4-en-3-one, stigmast-4-ene-3,6-dione, β-sitosterol, and stigmasterol); macrolides (des-O-methyl-lasiodiplodine and lasiodiplodine); isocoumarin (4-hydroxymelein); sesquiterpene lactone (isohemigosilicic acid lactone-2-methyl ether); and a mixture of fatty acids (palmitic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid, linoleic acid, and dihydrosterculic acid). The sesquiterpene lactone was evaluated against the bacterium Xanthomonas citri ssp. citri and demonstrated bactericidal and bacteriostatic activities at concentrations up to 400 µg mL-1. Our phytochemical study aggregated knowledge of this wood species originated from plantation sites and found activity bactericide to combat citrus canker.
