Description: | One of the basic components of the Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA) of pesticides is the scenario examined at each tier. In Brazil, IBAMA adopts the USEPA methodology and, therefore, it may lead to the registration of pesticides without considering Brazilian agricultural scenarios. Thus, the aim of this paper is to present a methodology for mapping areas with reservoirs to support the establishment of scenarios for assessing environmental risk of pesticides in surface water bodies in Brazil, conducting a case study to soybean crop in the Cerrado biome in the state of Mato Grosso. Visual interpretation of satellite images was carried out to identify areas with soybean and lakes, using as the basic unit of mapping watersheds generated in selected municipalities. The presence of lakes and artificial reservoirs was observed in less than 3% of watersheds with soybean crop. The presented methodology was effective for generating information necessary to establish scenarios at first level of ERA for pesticides in surface water bodies. |
