dc.descriptionAbstract: The objective of this work was to engender methods and procedures to monitor and assess environmental impact caused by pesticides in irrigated land that could support the adoption of mitigating measures. The first step was to compose a conceptual model to facilitate the use of an interdisciplinary, systemic approach. Following, watersheds with potential risk for environmental degradation were selected in the region of Guaíra, São Paulo State, aiming at studying the rural landscape dynamics and the impact of pesticides on soil, water and agricultural products. Questionnaires and interviews were canied out with farmers to identify the limiting factors in the agribusiness chain and to verify their perception of environmental risk in regard to the technology used. The results obtained were twofold: first, methods and indicators to evaluate the irnpact of pesticides on soil and water quality and on beans and tomato, and second, establish substitute, conective measures for more sustainable inigated agroecosystems.
