O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar variações do fluxo de calor num solo cultivado com milho e soja, em sistemas de plantio direto (PD) e preparo convencional (PC). The objective of this work was to quantify variations on the heat fluxes in soils cropped with maize and soybeans, in no-tillage and conventional tillage systems. Two field experiments were carried out in Eldorado do Sul, Brazil, in 2002/03 (maize) and 2003/04 (soybeans), with irrigation. Measurements of soil heat flux were taken by sensors (plates) Rebs model HFT3, at 1cm deep, in the crop row space. It was found higher heat fluxes in the maize than in the soybeans crops, both in the diurnal and nocturnal periods. As the leaf area index increased, in both the crops, the daily amplitude of the soil heat flux was reduced, due to shading of the surface by the canopy. The diurnal heat flux was higher than the nocturnal heat flux in the soil. The soil heat flux was higher in the conventional tillage than in the no-tilt soil. Differences among the soil tillage systems were higher at the beginning of the crop cycle, and decreased as the leaf area index increased.
