Description:	RESUMO - A bovinocultura de corte vem se constituindo em importante atividade econômica na região oeste do Estado de Mato Grosso, onde prevalecem sistemas extensivos de produção. Nestes sistemas, as pastagens, base da alimentação dos rebanhos, apresentamse em maior ou menor grau, infestadas por cupins-de-montículo do gênero Cornitermes. Neste trabalho, teve-se como objetivo verificar a ocorrência, bem como, conhecer a área ocupada por cupinzeiros nessas pastagens. No segundo semestre do ano de 2008, foram visitadas 12 propriedades rurais pertencentes ao município de Mirassol D’Oeste, escolhidas de forma aleatória nas quatro direções cardeais. Nestas propriedades, a área selecionada para pesquisa (0,5 ha), foi demarcada a partir de 100 metros de distância do acesso principal, onde foram coletados os seguintes dados: número de cupinzeiros, altura e circunferência da base dos mesmos. A infestação média encontrada nesse estudo foi de 70,3 cupinzeiros por hectare. Os resultados obtidos para as médias de altura e circunferência da base foram de 0,32 m e 1,94 m, respectivamente. Com base nos resultados obtidos conclui-se que nas propriedades visitadas no município de Mirassol D’Oeste, os cupinzeiros ocupam 0,21% da área de pastagem. ABSTRACT - The beef cattle industry is becoming an important economic activity for the western region of the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. In that region prevails extensive production systems, which depend mostly on pastures for meat production. In greater or lesser degree, pastures in that region are infested by termite mounds of the genus Cornitermes. The objective of this work was to verify the infestation levels, as well as, to know the area occupied by the termite mounds in those pastures. In the second half of the year 2008, twelve rural properties belonging to the Mirassol D’Oeste county, were chosen at random in the four cardinal directions. In each farm, a selected sample area of 0.5 ha was plotted. The considered parameters were the number of termite mounds, and the respective height and circumference at the soil level. The average infestation observed in this study was 70.3 termite mounds per hectare. Based on the obtained results, the termite mounds occupy 0.21% of the pasture area, in the municipality of Mirassol D' Oeste.
