Conteúdo: In the transition region between the Cerrado-Amazon biomes in Brazil, the conversion of native forests into pastures results in soil degradation. From this perspective, the implementation of integrated systems emerges as a method to recover the quality of these soils. This study evaluated soil carbon compartments through the measurement of the physical and chemical fractions of organic matter and microbial biomass under continuous pasture, intercropping of maize with Megathyrsus maximus, in two integrated crop-livestockforest systems with maize, Urochloa brizantha, and eucalyptus, and with maize, M. maximus, and Attalea speciosa (babassu coconut palm tree). The conversion of pasture to integrated systems with soil tillage led to negative changes in the chemical and physical compartments of soil organic matter during the initial years of the system. The newly planted eucalyptus did not contribute to conserve soil carbon. The adoption of integrated systems with the presence of babassu increased carbon stocks up to 0.5 m deep by 7.1% compared to the conventional pasture area, minimizing the impacts of soil tillage performed for the cultivation of intercropping on the physical and chemical compartments of organic matter
