dc.descriptionSixty populations from 10 crosses including parents were studied for their disease reaction to isolate Xp CNF 15 of Xanthomonas campestris pv phaseoli (Xp). Bean cultivars showing different degrees of susceptibility were selected as parents based on inoculations in the field and greenhouse with isolate Xp CNF 15. Leaf reaction data for the 10 crosses and pod reaction data for six crosses were submitted to weighted generation mean analysis. Gene action mo deis showed that additive gene action for resistance was significant for leaf and pod reaction in ali cases. Estimates of gene action were not biased by linkage. Heritability estimates in the broad and narrow sense were obtained for leaf reaction of the crosses. These estimates were generally high and evaluations by the maximum value showed to be more convenient except in three crosses in which GN Jules was the resistant parent. Finally, correlation coefficients between leaf and pod reaction were also calculated for the F 2 populations of eight crosses. Leaf reaction was correlated with pod reaction only in crosses where PI 207.262 and Mexico 168 were included. In ali other cases the two traits segregated independently.
