dc.descriptionRESUMO - Com dados da raça Tabapuã verificou-se a influência de efeito maternos sobre a avaliação genética de reprodutores. Realizou-se análises, como características simples e múltiplas, com os pesos corrigidos para 120, 240 e 420 dias de idade, nas quais os efeito maternos estavem presentes ou não nos modelos. O efeito materno foi maior até a desmama e a correlação negativa de alta magnitude indicou antagonismo entre efeitos genéticos diretos e maternos. Constatou-se que a inclusão de efeitos genéticos diretos e maternos. Constatou-se que a inclusão de efeitos maternos nos medelos implicou em redução da variância aditiva apenas nas análises de característica única, mostrando que o tipo de análise, se de característica simples ou múltiplas, influênciou a identificação da importância dos efeitos maternos, tornando necessário cautela nas considerações e recomendações a srem feitas. ABSTRACT - This experiment was carried out to study the influence of the maternal effects on the genetic evaluation of sires of the Tabapuã beef cattle breed. Analyses with single and multiple traits with the weights at 120, 240 and 420 days of age were used in models including or not the maternal effect. The maternal effect was higher until weaning and the high and negative correlation indicated antagonism between direct and maternal genetic effects. It was verified that the inclusion of maternal effects in the models just implied in reduction of the additive variance in the analyses of single trait, showing that the analysis single or multiple traits, influenced the identification of the importance of the maternal effects, showing caution according to the results.
