dc.descriptionRESUMO - O objetivo foi avaliar os efeitos fixos de ano e mês de nascimento, sexo, região e idade da vaca ao parto e estimar os parâmetros genéticos da variação dos pesos a desmama de bovinos da raça nelore mocha nascidos em cinco mega regiões de Goiás entre 1977 e 2000. A análise dos dados para obter estimativas dos efeitos de meio foram realizadas pelo método dos quadrados mínimos. A média ajustada dos pesos foi de 164,00 ± 0,45. Houve efeito significativo (P< 0,01) de todas as variáveis estudadas. As estimativas dos parâmetros genéticos foram obtidas por meio de Modelo Animal, usando o Sistema MTDFREML. O modelo incluiu os efeitos fixos de grupo de contemporâneos, região, idade da vaca e os efeitos aleatórios do animal (direto, materno e de ambiente permanente da vaca). As estimativas de herdabilidade dos efeitos genéticos diretos e maternos foram 0,17 e 0,14, respectivamente. Os fatores ambientais foram importantes para a característica e devem ser controlados ou corrigidos para atingir índices zootécnicos satisfatórios que expressem todo o potencial dos animais. Os resultados indicam a existência de variabilidade genética suficiente para promover o ganho genético através da seleção e que os efeitos maternos devem ser considerados nos modelos de estimação. ABSTRACT - The objective was to evaluate fixed effects of year and month from birth, sex, area and age of cow at calving and to estimates the genetic parameters of the variation of the weaning weight of polled Nellore cattle been born in five mega regions of Goiás between 1977 and 2000. The analysis of the data to obtain estimates of the environmental effects was accomplished the least - squares means method. The adjusted average of the weights was of 164.00 ± 0,45. There was significant effect (P <0,01) of all sources of variations in the studied. Estimates of genetic parameters were obtained through mtdfreml system, Animal Model. In the model was included fixed effects of contemporary groups, area, age of dam, and random additive genetic effects of animal (direct, maternal and permanent environmental). Heritability estimates of the genetic direct and maternal effects were 0,17 and 0,14, respectively. The environmental factors were important for the traits studied and they should be controlled or corrected to reach indexes satisfactory that express the whole potential of the animals. The results indicate the existence of enough genetic variability to promote the genetic earnings through the selection.
