Caseous lymphadenitis (CLA) is a disease caused by Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis that affects small ruminants, decreasing the production in infected animals. Several methods for detection of subclinical CLA have been developed but without success. The present study has developed a Skin Test using secreted proteins of C. pseudotuberculosis for subclinical CLA diagnostic in small ruminants. The tested animals were divided into two different groups: 10 positives (A) and 10 negative goats (B) for CLA. The fraction of secreted proteins was obtained through Three-Phase Partitioning (TPP), diluted in PBS solution and then inoculated in the left cervical region, via intra-dermal. Inoculation of PBS solution without proteins was performed in the same tested animals at the right side. Group A showed higher hypersensitivity compared to group B during 6 days of evaluation, with a peak response after 24 hours. The standardized Skin Test showed promising results and might improve CLA control in herds.
