Description:	RESUMO - Dados de pesos aos 90 (P90), aos 205 (P205) e 365 (P365) dias de idade, de 530 rebanhos Nelore dos diversos estados brasileiros, referentes a 46.408 animais avaliados no período de 1976 a 2000, foram utilizados para estimar efeitos genéticos direto e materno pelo método de Máxima Verossimilhança Restrita aplicada a um modelo animal. No modelo incluíram-se os efeitos fixos de grupo contemporâneo e região, idade da vaca ao parto (covariável) e os efeitos aleatórios genéticos direto e materno. As médias e os desvios-padrão dos pesos P90, P205 e P365 foram 95,99 ± 16,39, 167,73 ± 27,43 e 218,85 ± 36,66, respectivamente. As herdabilidades para o efeito genético direto e materno foram 0,15 e 0,16 (P90), 0,22 e 0,22 (P205) e 0,18 e 0,12 (P365). As correlações entre os efeitos direto e materno foram –0,39 (P90), –0,45 (P205) e -0,21 (P365). O efeito materno foi importante na fase pré-desmama. ABSTRACT - Body weight records of 46.408 Nelore animals at 90 (90BW), 205 (205BW) and 365 (365BW) days of age from 530 herds of several states of Brazil recorded from 1976 to 2000 were used to estimate genetic and maternal parameters by restricted maximum likelihood methodology. The statistical model included the fixed effects of contemporary group and age of cow (covariate), and the random additive genetic and maternal effects. Means and standard deviation were 95.99 ± 16.39 for 90BW, 167.73 ± 27.43 for 205 BW and 218.85 ± 36.66 for 365BW . Heritability estimaties for genetic and maternal effects for 90BW, 205BW and 365BW were, respectively, 0.15 and 0.16, 0.22 and 0.22 and 0.18 and 0.12. The correlation between additive and maternal effects for 90BW, 205BW and 365BW were, respectively, -0.39 90BW, -0.45 BW205 and –0.21 BW365. The maternal effects were important for pre-weaning weight.
