Description: Based on the findings on plant-fungus combinations new approaches for identification of resistance factors and new development concepts for plant selection can be given. So far the fungus is restricted to America. The spores of the fungus are not suitable for long distance transport, but just recently direct flight services connecting humid tropical areas have been installed. Thus all rubber growing areas are potentially threatened. Besides the selection of resistant plant material new data on ecological aspects of rubber tree cultivation are available, which can be used in integrated disease control measures. Furthermore cultural measures such as crown budding of susceptible genotypes with non susceptible Hevea species are carried out and polyploidisations is tested as a way to create new qualities of plant material.
