Brazil plays an important role in world agricultural production and this have causing concern regarding the consumption of inputs such as the herbicide atrazine. This compound used in crops of sugarcane, corn and sorghum has high mobility in the soil, and can be transported by runoff and leaching, causing contamination of surface and groundwater. The lack of data on the transport of atrazine in tropical soils, mainly sandy, justify this experimental and comparative study of the transport of atrazine in plots with sugarcane and bare soil. The plots with three replications were installed at Arruda Botelho Institute, in São Carlos city and after the application, runoff was collected after rainy events. Three samplings were carried out between February and March 2018. The results show that the plots with bare soil generated flow with concentrations eight times higher than the sugarcane plots. After 30 days of application the concentration in both covers had still high values and the similar. The amount of atrazine carried out by runoff has high potential for contamination of surface and ground water, indicating the need best management practices.por
