Descripción: Upland rice is the main rice cropping system in Brazil and represents 70% of the total rice cultivated area. Rice is present in all states, and considered the most important crop in the southern, west-central, and northern regions. While several rice cropping systems are practiced in Brazil, the most commonly used are the irrigated lowland rice, lowland rice, upland rainfed rice, and favored upland rainfed rice systems. Favored upland rainfed rice is cultivated under sprinkler irrigation or in regions with good rainfall distribution with no risk of water stress and represents about 20% of the total upland rice area. Upland rainfed rice is usually cultivated in areas with higher risks of drought spells and where artificial irrigation is not a common practice.
