Descripción:	This research work was performed in two farms of the county of Uruará, Pará state, located at the Transamazônica highway. The chemical properties of Ultisoils under forest and pasture (Brachiaria brizantha, cv Marandu) were determined at the 0-7, 7-14 e 14-21cm under comparable conditions. The samples of soil were collected at the beginning (July 99) and the end of the dry season (December99) with three site replications. The soils under pasture were more fertile than under forest. The season affected the chemical properties of the Ultisoils under forest. There was striking difference among the soil properties due to the farm place, mainly P and Al.
