Conteúdo: Just a century ago, natural araucaria (Araucaria angustifolia (Bert). O. Ktze.) forests dominated the landscape on the highlands of Southern and Southeastern Brazil. Nowadays, they have become highly fragmented and only few remnants persist and the species is considered as threatened to extinction. As a means to help in the conservation of its genetic resources, studies based on population parameters are necessary. This study is an effort to identify araucaria population groups of greatest priority for conservation measures based on genetic distances. Five populations over two wide regions were analyzed: one in the Southeastern Region where araucaria populations are found scattered and at higher elevations; and the other in the Southern Region where its populations are more extensive and continuous.
