Description: Present main efforts by Embrapa in production of energy crops in bioethanol aim at: 1) eliminating obstacles to the expression of the production potential of sugarcane, such as: to increase sugarcane productivity, sucrose content and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses; 2) improving the biological nitrogen fixation in the crop; 3) developing sugarcane crop management and production system integration technologies in expansion areas, and 4) developing new varieties with increased biomass production for 2nd generation biofuels.
