Conteúdo:	Since 1988, the Brazilian National lnstitute for Space Research (INPE) has produced annual estimates to monitor the evolution of the extent and rate of gross deforestation in lhe Brazilian Amazon. ln 2002, INPE developed a new classification method - called PRODES Digital - that raplaced the manual interpretation assessment routines used until then. To better understend this evolution, this paper descrlbes the application of basic geo-statistícal methods to determine the distribution and concentration patterns on both public ena non-public forests.
