Descripción:	RESUMO - Objetivou-se estimar a herdabilidade da característica habilidade de permanência em rebanhos da raça Nelore. A característica em estudo foi definida como a probabilidade da vaca ter pelo menos três partos até os 76 meses de idade. Observações binárias com zero (0) indicando fracasso e um (1) sucesso foram designadas para as reprodutrizes. Os componentes de variância e a herdabilidade foram estimados mediante inferência bayesiana pelo programa MTGSAM – threshold usando-se o modelo touro-avô materno. Considerou-se tamanho de cadeia de Gibbs de 550 mil, período de descarte amostral de 50 mil e tomada de amostra a cada 500 rodadas. A análise forneceu estimativa de herdabilidade (média) igual a 0,15, mostrando que a característica apresenta variação genética aditiva e, portanto, ganhos genéticos podem ser alcançados por seleção. ABSTRACT - The aim of this study was to estimate the heritability of stayability for a Nellore cattle. Stayability was defined as the probability of the cow have at least three calving at age of 76 months as success. Binary observation, with zero (0) indicating failure and one (1) success were set to the cows. The software MTGSAM for threshold traits was used to get the variance components and heritability estimates for stayability using a maternal grandsire model analysis. The implementation considered a length of Gibbs chain of 550 thousand, a period of burn-in of 50 thousand, and a thinning interval at each 500 runs. The average heritability was 0,15, showing that the trait presents genetic additive variation and genetic gain can be reached by selection.
