Description: Gastrointestinal nematode infections compromise animal welfare and health, resulting in production losses that significantly reduce expected profits for producers. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of gastrointestinal nematodes in Curraleiro Pé-Duro cattle across 16 farms affiliated with the Brazilian Association of Curraleiro Pé-Duro Cattle Breeders (ABCPD), located in the Midwest, North, and Northeast of Brazil. Blood and fecal samples were collected from 643 animals between February and September 2023. The samples were subjected to egg counts per gram of feces (EPG), fecal cultures, and packed cell volume (PCV) analysis. In addition, weight and body condition score (BCS) were recorded. The main gastrointestinal nematodes identified were Haemonchus spp., Cooperia spp., Oesophagostomum spp., Bunostomum spp., Trichostrongylus spp., and Strongyloides spp. Young animals of both sexes were the most affected, followed by adult females, while adult bulls exhibited a lower degree of infection. The mean PCV was 30.25% in adults and 34.83% in calves, suggesting that young animals, despite higher parasite burdens, maintained hematological parameters within expected limits. These results highlight the need for targeted parasite control strategies in younger and more susceptible animals.
