Description:	RESUMO - Dados de pesos ao nascimento (PN), aos 205 (P205) e 365 (P365) dias de idade, de 152 rebanhos Tabapuã dos diversos Estados brasileiros, no período de 1976 a 1995, foram utilizados para estimar efeitos genéticos direto e materno pelo método de Máxima Verossimilhança Restrita aplicada a um modelo animal. No modelo incluíram-se os efeitos fixos de grupo contemporâneo e região, idade da vaca ao parto (covariável) e os efeitos aleatórios genéticos direto e materno. As médias e os desvios-padrão dos pesos P205 e P365 nas diversas regiões estudadas foram 167,83 ± 24,3 e 215,18 ± 37,7 (Sul), 172,69 ± 24,6 e 223,10 ± 36,6 (Sudeste), 169,10 ± 23,3 e 207,41 ± 30,3 (Centro-Oeste) e 171,70 ± 30,6 e 225,64 ± 38,3 (Nordeste), respectivamente. As herdabilidades para o efeito genético direto e materno do P205 nas diversas regiões estudadas foram 0,02 e 0,31 (Sul), 0,17 e 0,19 (Sudeste), 0,20 e 0,09 (Centro-Oeste) e 0,06 e 0,16 (Nordeste), respectivamente e do P365 foram 0,05 e 0,03 (Sul), 0,20 e 0,03 (Sudeste), 0,51 e 0,62 (Centro- Oeste) e 0,15 e 0,05 (Nordeste), respectivamente. As correlações genéticas entre os efeitos direto e materno para P205 e P365 nas diversas regiões foram 1,00 e 0,00 (Sul), -0,18 e 0,32 (Sudeste), 0,00 e –1,00 (Centro-Oeste) e 0,00 e 0,82 (Nordeste). O efeito materno foi importante apenas na fase pré-desmama para todas regiões. ABSTRACT - Body weight records at birth (BW), 205 (205BW) and 365 (365BW) days of age of 152 Tabapuã herds from several States of Brazil during 1976 to 1995 period were used to estimate genetic and maternal effects by Restricted Maximum Likelihood methodology using animal model that included the fixed effects of contemporary group and region, age of cow (covariate) and random genetic and maternal effects. The means and standard deviation for 205W and 365W considered for each of the following regions South, Southeast, Central west, Northeast were: 167.83 ± 24.3 and 215.18 ± 37.7, 172.69 ± 24.6 and 223.10 ± 36.6, 169.10 ± 23.3 and 207.41 ± 30.3 and 171.70 ± 30.6 e 225.64 ± 38.3, respectively. The heritability of genetic and maternal effects for 205BW were 0.02 and 0.31 (South), 0.17 and 0.19 (Southeast), 0.20 and 0.09 (Centralwest) and 0.06 and 0.16 (Northeast), respectively, and for 365BW were 0.05 and 0.03 (South), 0.20 and 0.03 (Southeast), 0.51 and 0.62 (Central-West) and 0.15 and 0.05 (Northeast), respectively. The correlation between additive and maternal effects for 205BW and 365BW were 1.00 and 0 (South), -0.18 and 0.32 (Southeast), 0 and –1.00(Central west) and 0 and 0.82 (Northeast). Maternal effects were important only on pre-weaning traits for all regions.
