Description: | [Growth characteristic of slaughter 1/2 breed lambs for slaughter in the northeast of Brazil]. Abstract: One hundred and seventy one F1 lambs, originated from crosses between Santa In (e) over caps, Somalis Brasileira and Dorper does with Undefined Breed Ewes (UBE) were used to evaluate the effect of genotype and performance of lambs for slaughter, in Sobral, State of Ceard, Brazil. Ewes and lambs were raised in native pasture ("caatinga") with mineral supplementation. Weaning occurred at 79 days of age. Lambs were weighted every 14 days until weaning. Weight and weight gain of from Dorper x UBE lambs were higher (P < 0.01) than weigh and weigh gain of Santa In (e) over caps x UBE and Somalis Brasileira x UBE lambs. However, there was no difference between Santa In (e) over caps x UBE and Somalis Brasileira x UBE lambs. Sex had no influence (P > 0.05) on weight and weight gain of lambs. Animals born from single birth were heavier and gained more weight (P < 0.01) than twin-born lambs in all ages and in the weight gain interval studied. |
