Conteúdo: Water balance accounting models use system inflows and outflows to calculate how much water is available for human activities to be carried out. These models can also contribute to decision-making processes in areas suffering from seasonal water scarcity, as it is the case observed in the Preto River basin (PRB). Small dams are a wide used means to increase system storage in the PRB, as they can smooth seasonal water scarcity when planned carefully. The Water Evaluation and Planning (WEAP) system was used to investigate the role a water balance accounting model has in decision-making processes, and how this role can be extended or improved.
